In nineteen ninety four, Terry and Gwen Sherman purchased a sprawling cattle ranch in the Uinta Basin in Utah. They were hoping to build this premier livestock operation, but the property they had bought started showing signs that something weird was up. When exploring the empty ranch house that was previously owned by Kenneth and Edith Myers, the Shermans found it heavily fortified. There were heavy dead bolts installed on both the insides and outsides of the doors. The windows were completely sealed. Locks were even mounted on the kitchen cabinets and bedroom closets. But even weirder, the property came with bizarre real estate stipulation. The Shermans were bound by this strict no digging clause, requiring permission before breaking ground. Now, the weird stuff here didn't take long to start showing up. On the very first day when they moved in, the family sparted this impossibly large wolf that was casually crossing the pasture. It was strange because it behaved like a tame pet. It was wagging its tail, even allowed the family to approach and stroke its fur. But the tranquility shattered in an instant. When a massive beasts lunge at a nearby calf, clamped its powerful jaws around the animal's head. It was about to eat it in front of them. Terry rushed over, pubbling the creature's ribs with a baseball bat, but the heavy blows had absolutely no effect. Desperate to save his livestock, Terry grabbed a three point fifty seven magnum and shot the creature at point blank range multiple times. Incredibly, the beasts didn't flinch, It didn't bleed or release its grip. It took another shot before the wolf finally let go, looking back at the rancher with a completely bored expression. Terry then retrieved this heavy dute hunting rifle and fired a slug directly into its chest, blowing off a chunk of flesh. But the wolf simply turned around and slowly walked away. When Terry tracked the massive pap prints through the mud, the trail abruptly vanished into thin air, as if the creature had simply disappeared. Today, we're going to center around this five hundred and twelve acre property in the northeastern Utah area, one that is widely considered one of the most active paranormal hotspots on the planet. Investigators noticed that this is a center where an impossible variety of supernatural, extraterrestrial, and high strangeness phenomena get together in one single spot. You're in for a seriously bizarre case where everything is terrifying but has also baffled scientists because it appears it might be one hundred percent real. So let's dive into the mystery of Skinwalker Ranch. My name is Edwin and here's a horror story. The ranch lies in what has been a well known hot spot for the unexplained since the seventeen hundreds, when early Spanish explorers reported seeing strange fireball like crafts hovering over the campfires at night. But the deepest and most chilling roots of this five hundred and twelve acre property came from the Native American tribes who have called this region home for centuries. The ranch sits next to a massive four and a half million acre Youth Indian Reservation, which was established by President Abraham Lincoln in the mid nineteenth century. Hundreds of years ago, the Youth and the neighboring Navajo tribes had an uneasy and often volatile relationship, sometimes resulting in direct conflict and the taking of slaves. This animosity reached a breaking point during the American Civil War between eighteen sixty one and eighteen sixty five, when bands of the Ute tribe allied with the US military and a campaign against the Navajo. The Navajo were ultimately defeated and forced from their lands. They were subjected to a grueling two month march to a reservation in New Mexico, a tragic banishment known as the Long Walk. The resulted in the deaths of at least two hundred Navajo people. According to deeply held local lore, the devastated Navajo retaliated with a dark curse, the cursed the Ute tribe by unleashing malevolent, shape shifting spirits to endlessly roam the Ute lands. In Navajo culture, these terrifying entities are known as skinwalkers. The traditional Navajo phrase for the creature is ye now glocci, which translates to with it he goes on all fours. Legend states that skinwalkers were once powerful healers and medicine men who became corrupted by their own power and chose a path of pure evil to fully be able to use their dark magic and complete their gruesome initiation. These witches are said to have committed the ultimate taboo, sacrificing a sibling or a close relative. Once transformed, skinwalkers possess a terrifying ability to shape shift at will, commonly taking the form of massive wolves, coyotes, bears, eagles, and crows. They are viewed as the absolute essence of evil, feeding on power, and existing as hateful tricksters out for revenge. This legend is not just an old campfire's story, the serious and deeply rooted belief. It's actually very important to get these facts right because for hundreds of years, members of the Uth tribe have actively avoided the specific parcel of land, this one that makes up the modern day ranch, believing the property to be curged and sitting directly in the monster's territory, and the ute locals refused to set foot there, referring to the area ominously as the path of the skin Walker. So let's go back to our original story here, right, The sherman's move in and they had that encounter with the wolf. After that is when the events really took off. The family reported hearing heavy machinery operating underground, smelling strong sulfur, and finding perfectly flattened crop circles in their pastures. They also witness a variety of UFOs raging, from boxing crafts to hovering objects the size of several football fields, and one bizarre encounter, Terry and his family chased what appears to be a part RV with his headlights on, only to watch in horror as the silent refrigerator shaped craft levitated off the ground and flew seamlessly over a fifty foot tree line. Terry was an expert cattleman who meticulously manages herd, aiming for a livestock loss rate of just one percent. Instead, the ranch systematically killed his animals. Fourteen of his priced cattle were lost in a short period, and some simply vanished in the middle of snowstorms without a single track left behind. Others were subjected to brutal, bloodless mutilations. Cows were found with their eyes, ears, and internal organs removed with laser like surgical precision, and yet not a single drop of blood was left on the surrounding grass. The psychological warfare peaked when four of Terry's two thousand pound price breeding bulls vanished from their corral, only to be found crammed together inside a tiny, locked trailer, one that had him been opened in years. The massive animals were standing in a bizarre frozen trance, only snapping out of it and violently panicking once Terry opened the door. With The final breaking point came in the form of the glowing orbs that frequently patrolled the property. These intelligent basketball sized spheres, often a vibrant blue, seemed to intentionally bring along a sense of absolute dread in anyone who saw them. One evening, Terry watched a blue orb darting near the tree line and commanded his three highly trained dogs to chase it down. The dogs went after the glowing sphere into the thick brush, and moments later Terry heard three agonized elves, followed by a dead, chilling silence. Too terrified to enter the dark woods that night, he waited until morning to search for his pets, and he found were three scorched circular patches of earth, each containing a greasy, melted lump of burnt flesh. Now facing financial ruin from the loss of their expensive cattle and suffering intense psychological trauma, the Shermans realized that they could not win against whatever control of the land. In nineteen ninety six, after less than two years of absolute terror, they sold the Nightmare property to Las Vegas billionaire Robert Bigelow. This handovers had the stage for the National Institute for Discovery Science and the most intensive scientific investigation of the paranormal ever conducted. Now, this billionaire that bought the property also brought in highly credentialed people, a team of PhD level physicists, biochemists, veterinarians, former military security personnel, effectively transforming the ranch into this twenty four to seven paranormal laboratory. Interesting though, Terry Sherman agreed to stay on the ranch as a manager, allowing the team of the National Institute of Discovery Science, or NINTS as we're going to call it from now on, the team to use his remaining cattle as living biosensors to monitor the ongoing phenomena. The KNIDS team did not have to wait a long time actually, before the supernatural events came back. On the night of March twelfth, nineteen ninety seven, the team's dogs began barking frantically at this cluster of trees near the ranch house, biochemist Combe Keller and Terry Sherman sparted this large humanoid creature perched roughly twenty feet up in the branches, staring down at them with these penetrating, unblinking yellow eyes. Sherman fired his hunting rifle at the figure, causing it to drop heavily on the ground and flee through the brush. When the team searched the snow below, they found no blood, but they did discover a single enormous inch oval track with two sharp claws protruding from the rear. To the researchers surprise, the print closely resembled the foot of a raptor or a bird of prey. The horror also extended to the livestock, occurring in broad daylight right under the scientist's noses. In one incident, Gwen and Terry had just tagged a calf, only to find it lying completely disemboweled in the pasture. Less than forty five minutes later. More than sixty pounds of the animal's flesh and all of its internal organs had been removed with surgical precision. Incredibly, despite the massive wounds, not a single drop of blood was found on the surrounding grass, completely baffling the knids of a terrinarian. So as the investigation continued, the researchers realized that they were dealing with something that was I don't know, was one step ahead of them. So frustrated was near misses, a team installed these sophisticated cameras on telephone poles. They arranged them so that each camera monitored the others to prevent undetected tampering. On on July twentieth, nineteen ninety eight, three of these cameras were suddenly knocked offline. When investigators inspected the damage, they found that heavy duty duct tape had been meticulously unwound and thick wiring was forcefully ripped out of the camera boxes from fifteen feet in the air. Yet when they checked the video footage from a secondary camera aimed directly at the vandalized pole, they showed absolutely nothing out of the ordinary happening at that exact moment when the power was cut. The entity seemed to know their moves before they made them. This frustrating reality led Colonel John Alexander, a military intelligence officer and nid's advisory member, to coin a specific term for the phenomenon a precognitive sentient intelligence. The researchers for included that they were dealing with this prankster entity that could manipulate electronics, anticipate human actions, and refuse to be caught on film. The branch simply would not cooperate with the scientific method, and of course, this mystery caught the attention of the United States government. In two thousand and eight, the Defense Intelligence Agency THEDIA initiated this highly classified, twenty two million dollar program called the Advanced Aerospace Weapons System's Applications Program as an acronym, but it's really long, so I might as well just call it the program. The government contracted with Robert Bigelow's Aerospace company to scientifically study UFOs and their effects on humans, utilizing the ranch as a primary field lab. The DIA quickly deployed military intelligence personnel to Utah property to investigate these bizarre claims. All five of the personnel deployed experience profound anomalies on the property, but the true terror began with tours of duty ended. The researchers discovered that the phenomena were not confined by the boundaries of the ranch. The investigators without realizing it brought something home with them, a terrifying consequence that researchers officially named the hitchhiker effect. One of the most prominent cases involved the naval intelligence officer given the pseudonym Jonathan Axelrod. After visiting the ranch, he returned to his normal, middle class home in suburban Virginia, and within a month, a bunch of paranormal activity erupted in his residence. For years, his wife and teenage sons were subjected to nightmarish dog men appearing in their backyard, bright blue and red orb floating through their living spaces, and black shadow people standing over their beds as they slept. Even more disturbing, though the phenomenon acted like an infectious disease, it didn't just stay isolated with the Axelrods, though it actively spread into the surrounding neighborhood. The younger teenager's high school friends independently reported seeing large wolf like creatures outside their bedroom windows, and also strange blue lights flying kind of like orbs that were flying around their yards, proving that the perception of these bizarre anomalies was highly transferable. The hitchhiker effect wasn't made up of only hallucinations. It also carried a severe and documented biological cost. Axelrod's wife suffered sudden flare ups of systemic loopis and raynon disease. Another military visitor marine named Jim Costigan, had a blue orb fly through his Maryland neighborhood and briefly grazed his wife's arm, and she quickly became sick and was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that attacked her thyroid gland. Over the course of the study, the group of researchers and their families who caught this strange hitchhiking effect consequence, they were diagnosed with a constellation of unusual medical conditions, including rare blood diseases, rhematoid arthritis, and severe connective tissue of normalities. The government's study revealed a terrifying new layer to this mystery. The anomalies at Skinwalker Ranch operate like an infectious agent that can attach itself to human observers, following them thousands of miles away to fundamentally change their reality and make them sick. In twenty sixteen, the ranch changed hands again. This is when real estate mogul Brandon Fugal purchased a property for four and a half million dollars. Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, he assembled this multidisciplinary team, including astrophysicist and aerospace engineer doctor Travis Taylor, to apply cutting edge science to the phenomena. This modern investigation has increasingly focused on this other geological feature, or a prominent one that borders of property. It's known as the Messa. Now, suspecting it to be a little more than just a natural rock formation, the team deployed advanced ground penetrating radar and heavy drilling equipment, and what they found staggering. The radar identified this massive dome shaped object buried deep within the rock. Attempting to physically interact with this anomaly proved to be this dangerous and also kind of impossible task, because when the team's industrial drill reached the depth of about two hundred feet, it hit a massive subterranean void like a huge cavern, but except it wasn't a normal cavern. When they tried to flush the drill hole that means like dub a bunch of water in there to see what comes out, they found that this void inexplicably swallowed two hundred and fifty gallons of water in an instant, indicating a connection to an unknown complex underground system with absorption properties. And even more startling, the drilling operations brought up physical debris. They analyzed it. They actually found metal and ceramic fragments, and it showed very closely that it was resembling the protective coatings that are used on advanced spacecraft. It was suggesting the presence of highly classified or non human aerospace technology very deep beneath the Earth. Another major focal point for the modern day team here is an area known as a triangle, a zone that seems to blatantly defy the laws of physics. Here, DPS coordinates jump meters away from the true positions, and sudden, dangerous spikes of ionizing radiation appear out of nowhere. When researchers fired high powered lasers across a triangle, the light beams literally deflected or broke apart in mid air, revealing an invisible vortex or cloak field. Rockets fired into this invisible zone are mysteriously pushed entirely off course, and items dropped from above appear to be physically pushed around in the invisible barrier. But perhaps the most consistent and ominous discovery of this modern era is a bizarre one point six gigahertz radio signal. The signal constantly drifts across the spectrum with abnormal harmonics, it jumps bands and defies standard telecommunication rules. Worse, it appears to be a predictive marker directly connected to the biological distress of living creatures. That means it bugs certain animals, like during a twenty twenty five drilling operation, the one point six giga heard signal suddenly broadcasted along this one point two geeka hert signal, and at that exact moment, the ranches herd of cattle went completely panicked and buck wilde. The modern research team is left trying to deal with the reality that Skinwalker Ranch is not just another passive, haunted location. The data suggests that they are dealing with a dynamic environment controlled by an advanced intelligence, one that uses anomalous frequencies and invisible physics defying structures to actively monitor and respond to their every move. The story of Skinwalker Ranch often gives the impression that the phenomena are trapped behind a secure fence, but the truth is that the strangeness is not contained by the property lines. The entire Uintah basin has earned the nickname Ufo Alley, boasting a thriving and spands have ecosystem of bizarre activity. Right next door to the ranch on the Ute tribal land sits Bottle Hollow Reservoir, a four hundred and twenty acre man made lake filled in nineteen seventy, This body of water has emerged as a major epicenter of the trans medium travel phenomenon, where objects move seamlessly between the sky and the water. Like in nineteen ninety eight, a police officer witnessed a massive light plunge directly into the reservoir and then shoot back out into the night sky. A few years later, four men stood on the shoreline and watched a glowing blue white ball dive into the water, only to emerge seconds later as a shimmering belt shaped shaft of light before zipping away at incredible speed. And even more recently, witnesses, including members of the Ute tribe, have reported seeing trans medium portals opening above the reservoir, with military helicopters actively chasing ufoes that dive into the lake. They don't make a single splash. Photographic evidence from the researchers has even captured convoluted blue white rings over the water with dark centers, resembling the theoretical visual signature of a wormhole. This regional anomaly extends far beyond the rural basin and reaches into the heart of Utah's military infrastructure. Between twenty twenty four and twenty twenty five, Hill Air Force Base, a critical facility housing the F thirty five fighter program and serving as a logistics hub for minute Man three nuclear missiles, was subjected to repeated alarming incursions by swarms of unidentified drones. Witnesses described large distinct lights moving in tight formations at night, completely baffling the defense systems of the world's most advanced air force. And then came the pios because in January twenty twenty five, with the tragic death of Matthew Liveelsburger, a decorated Green Beret and a drone warfare specialist, had left behind a manifesto explicitly claiming that these mystery drones were not conventional aircraft, but rather highly advanced crafts that were utilizing gravitic propulsion systems operated in a secret technological Cold War. Perhaps the most fascinating regional discovery recently is not aerospace or military, but kind of biological, if we have to give it a name. Twenty twenty four and twenty twenty five, researchers identified a novel hallucinogenic mushroom lan Maua assiatica growing in the local Utah ecosystem. Unlike standard psychoactive fungi, this specific mushroom contains no known hallucinogenic compounds, yet it consistently triggers the liputin hallucinations. Users reliably report seeing tiny people, distinct humanoids or elves less than a foot tall. This kind of biological discovery offers this compelling materialist explanation for one of the great basins most enduring indigenous myths. It's a little more complicated in thinking that everyone's pretty much drugged up and imagining these things, But for centuries the youth and the Payute tribes have passed down legends of trickster water babies and little people that are inhabiting the local springs and lakes. Actually have an episode on that. In case you're interested, I'll be sure to link to it. Now, scientists realize that these ancient legends may have been heavily influenced by the accidental ingestion of a very real, mind altering fungus. But if it's highly classified military drone warfare, naturally occurring novel hollocynogens, genuine trans medium portals, the data makes one thing clear. The phenomenon defining the UTAH nominally stretch far beyond the gates of a single ranch everywhere. So what is actually happening at Skinwalker Ranch? Where does all this information come from? And can it all be a hoax? For skeptics and materialists, the most grounded theory involves a highly classified government testing that's usually the consensus. Terry Sherman himself often suspected his property was being used for a top secret military project. Some theory suggest that the branch has even been a theater for massive psychological operations evaluating human reactions to experimental stealth aircraft, advanced holographic displays, and cutting edge cloaking technology. But also these explanations could lie within the earth itself. The geophysical hallucination is called. This theory was developed by researchers like neuroscientist Michael Persinger, and it says that tectonic shifts an intense local eyes magnetic fields in the UINTAP basin directly affect the human brain. Under this model, the shapeshifters, UFOs glowing orbs are vivid, waking hallucinations triggered by powerful environmental and geological forces. Yet for the scientists, the military intelligence officers, the ones who have spent years directly observing the phenomena, these terrestrial explanations fall short. Many investigators have leaned toward the existence of interdimensional doorways, suggesting that the RANCH sits on a thin membrane separating our world from parallel universes and through that allowing strange creatures an anomalist craft to temporarily bleed into our reality. Others simply things that the glowing rbs are highly advanced, artificially intelligent extraterrestrial probes that are monitoring the area. But the most chilling, unified conclusion reached by the KNIDS team is that the RANCH is controlled by an unknown form of consciousness. The data points to a dynamic system that uses the unique geology of the region, and it's kind of like a catalyst to interact directly with human consciousness. Has the ability to manipulate our electronics, read our intentions, and induce these intense, unnatural feelings of terror, and even attach itself to visitors to follow them home. We may never find definitive physical proof that neatly answers the mystery of Skinwalker Ranch. The phenomena continuously refuses to be captured in a way that satisfies mainstream science, always staying one step ahead of the cameras and the researchers. However, the large amount of eyewitness testimony and recorded anomalies leaves us with a profound realization whether it's a covert military experiment, an undiscovered law of physics where an intelligence far beyond our own the utah A nominally is real and it is paying very close attention to us. There are many more details in this mystery, and more events that have baffle the witnesses, some of which I go through and answer for Scary Plus members in our additional bonus episode. But there are many documentaries and long form podcasts on the subject with even more compelling evidence, things that make you really wonder what is going on? If you're interested in me answering these questions. Based on some of the research, you can see the additional short bonus episodes on all apps. It should pop up somewhere like where you're listening right now, and all you have to do is click it and join. Or you can also find more information over on scary plus dot com. But I'll give you an idea of the additional things that I found right There's this one, the Horrors of Homestead number two. The ranch has that are abandoned building known as Homestead Too, which was a major hotspot for paranormal likeivity that the Myers family, which were the original owners, actively avoided. And they say that in nineteen eighty one, a young man named Roland McCook took shelter in the abandoned homestead during a blizzard, and while he was inside, he heard crashing sounds and went out to investigate. That's where he found bare human footprints in the snow that inexplicably transformed into the tracks of a massive wolf. Moments later, an eight foot tall bipedal wolf emerged from behind the outbuilding. It roared at him and fled into the trees. Pretty creepy, right, But you can also kind of tell why I didn't make the final episode here, and it's because it just goes way out there and it might just kind of derailize here. But anyway, that's all I got for you in this episode. Please, please please, if you have questions about this, something that you're wondering, or you have additional sources about this specific topic, please let me know. Also, a huge shout out to Connor happy belated birthday. It was actually reac out to remind us of this fascinating mystery, so thank you so much for that.
